Ah, the AP tests. Ultimately validation that you are aweomse, and your teachers such. My AP English teacher would never give me an A+, just an A-, even though I knew my papers were better than the people getting A pluses. When AP scores rolled in and I scored higher than the Harvard bound valedictorian, I started getting more attention. Got Thing 2! She’ll love not having to take basic english in college!

My oldest child once brought over a little friend who proceeded to mouth off to me in my home. I let him know that his wit was not appreciated and showed him where the door was. What the hell happened to Nancy on Weeds? Every season she gets more and more selfish, and now her character isn’t even recognizable as the same woman on season 1. And that’s not a good change, because now I can’t stand her! She was always a mess, but at least she was trying to be a good mom. Although as a whole, this season is better than last season so far. I miss the old Weeds though.

I’ve been waiting on this episode! It was crazy how so many women, me included, had such a strong emotional and visceral reaction to the verdict. I felt sick that whole day. I thought she would get aggravated child abuse or aggravated manslaughter…I think the evidence at the very least showed negligence on her part. I also couldn’t believe how quick the verdict came. UGH!

Living in border casino town, it’s amazing to people-watch in two sections of our town’s only grocery store. The liquor section…because if you’re from neighboring dry Utah, none of your neighbors are there to gasp in horror about the beer in your shopping cart and the Wild Vines is way cheap. Then the adult diaper section…because sometimes getting up from a hot machine to pee is a hassle.

The free trips? The casinos are courting you. They know exactly what you spend, including how much bankroll you put in the first time. They are giving you your first free hits to get you hooked and then you’ll come back for more. They are betting on you to increase your bets and eventually show up in Depends.

Your idea of who gets in to Heaven and who gets Raptured is not supported by the modern Christian church, but rather perpetuated by nonbelievers (and some confused believers) who misunderstand. I live in that part of the world, where that lady was found. They were in some pretty rugged territory and the roads were impassable. Why they relied on their GPS rather than heeding REAL road signs telling you not to take the scenic route is a mystery. The chain up warnings should have been a clue. Something’s hinky about that.

BTW, north of my town there is nothing for 120 miles, east: nothing for 120 miles, south: nothing for 120 miles, west: drive 50 miles and then find a tiny town with two brothels which support the high school football team. Where they were found is north of me 120 miles and that town is just as isolated 120 miles in all directions.

We have casinos. Yay.

I’m surprised that Kim has never been asked to sew for an adult baby, or other fetish wear. Before the economy tanked I used to get two to three requests a month. Mostly from adult babies. Some furries. Some clowns. A few vampires. Every great once in a while some weird lurid cosplay character. I usually said no because how much knit ducky print can be good for the eyes after sewing size 50 layettes? Besides, my business license prohibits adult sales and I’m going to use a real loose definition for that.

Since the recession though, I’m really considering it. I can sew a dazzling Pouf Bunny. Lots of fluff, lace, ruffly size 50 underpants. It’ll be dainty and adorable in it’s own way.

I’ve since learned that adult babies come in degrees. There are terms for it which I don’t recall but some require dirty diaper changing, some only wet, most won’t go there. Then the whole line between sexualizing the baby stuff and not sexualizing it. (Furries too…animal suits with convenience flaps and animal suits without.)

Anyway, I have a pony.

My teacher husband brought home a ziplock of cereal treats one of his students made him. He LOVES rice krispy treats but these have been sitting on his bedside table for more than a week now. They were made with froot loops, which colored the marshmallow a yellow color, and the treats look like they were bound together by loogies. I think my husband is keeping them because he wants to show some family when they come around.

On another note, my SIL went to pick up some other mother’s contribution to the school bake sale at her home. This woman was still in the middle of mixing her popcorn balls when my SIL arrived…in her bathtub. Needless to say, no popcorn balls were sold in that sale.

Pahrump doesn’t have a HUGE high school…1400 kids for four grades, so not big enough that somebody wouldn’t notice if they were the noticing type.

My husband is a NV teacher, not in Pahrump, and this sort of thing makes him all twitchy. Our district’s current grading system has caused him seizures. (Students can’t be graded on behaviors, and cheating is a behavior, so if kid cheats, he can’t fail a kid. Just give kid an incomplete. Retarded, no?) He assigns group projects though. HUGE nasty ones.

I’ve never had Nutella. But, I too have been fooled by false packaging only to read the nutrition label later and realize I’d been bamboozled. I saw an article the other day, where they are going to start putting the nutrition facts on the front of the package. BTW, women may have a space for fisting because a baby can pass through there, but having babies HURTS even after nine months of preparation. (Same emphasis as BUFFET!) So ouch, even with a good swabbing of vaseline.

The problem with RFID is people thinking it’s some secure chip. RFID is about as secure as a barcode. It can be easily read and copied by anyone.

I don’t think it’s really viable as a GPS type tracking device.

Legalizing drugs is one of the best things we could do to reduce violent crime. Gangs and cartels make their money BECAUSE the drugs are not legally purchaceable and tradable. Take their money makers, and you take their power.

Study prohibition and Al Capone and you will see the similarities between the crack down on alcohol and the drug war.

Punish those that have hurt other people. Using a drug is non-violent; the violence starts when people need money to buy their over-priced drugs because the cost is jacked up through the black market.

Hysterical episode. I played the android part for my wife since she just got a HTC MyTouch Slide (new phone from TMobile) and is in love with it. Y’all were spot on with Suduku and the stock app removal but when someone calls her a Grey silhouette appears but it might be because she changed her theme from the default.

Sam win win win!! I am so hooked on Dexter!!! I was at the library and noticed that they were putting out new movies which included all seasons of Dexter. I have one of the original iPods too. I’ve never seen another one like it…it’s screen is grayscale, but if you hold down play the screen lights up blue and the buttons light up red…and it doesn’t have a click wheel…the buttons and the wheel are just touch sensored. And it weighs about half a pound! haha! I bought it with my high school graduation money…I thought I was high tech!

On the other hand, their faulty information has actually benefitted the store through increased traffic and higher visibility. Their tactic has brought customers into the store, which is a direct and tangible benefit to them with a direct opportunity cost for the potential customer.

In other words, if we don’t hold stores accountable for their advertising, then they are receiving a net benefit at the cost of the general public, and that sucks balls.

The other issue I didn’t mention was that none of the phone apps allow me to enter custom routes. Motorcycle riders are often about how I’m getting somewhere, rather than just getting there, so the ability to pick twisty backroads, avoiding gravel farm roads, etc. is critical.

I have considered it, but I really think we’re going to be migrating to iPhones in June when I’m hoping OS4 launches. The only problem that I have with using the phone as the GPS is that it’s really not sturdy enough to mount to my bike’s bars like I’d need to in order to get power for long road trips. It is a thought though – because I’m not dropping close to a grand on a GPS for my bike.

Sam has a good point, in that is it correct that a minority population can dictate how a function should run for a majority? A prom is NOT a right guaranteed by the constitution, so whomever runs the prom should be allowed to dictate who can and can’t attend. If you had a student who had no legs, would you remove all dancing from the prom out of fear of offending that single student? I agree with Sam in that you can’t bend the rules just to suit one person (or one couple in this case). The couple is imposing their beliefs on the prom. As a society, I am not allowed to impose my beliefs on ALL society, I have to obey the rules or create my own society. The prom is the same way. Feelings get hurt all the time. Welcome to reality and life, people don’t always like you – the sooner you learn that, the sooner you learn to get along and survive.

I once passed a man who was reading a newspaper while driving! And it wasn’t even folded. I don’t even know how he saw the road. Scary!

Also, I don’t think eating a little marijuana ever hurt anyone. One time in college, my small dog got in to my roomate’s weed stash and ate almost half an ounce. I called the vet, (imagine that conversation,) and he said she just needed to sleep it off. She didn’t eat, walk or pee for 2 days, but she was eventually back to normal! I was very mad at the time, but it’s kind of funny now. Apparently you can’t overdose on weed.

Sam is right about “sweat shops”. For the most part, the people working in them are working there because the alternative, working the farm/land, isn’t as good. “Sweat shops” provide a place of work for people who otherwise wouldn’t have one.

It might not be up to the workplace standards of the USA, but it’s something. And I also believe if they are able to save enough wealth to immigrate to the USA to work, not take welfare obviously, they should be allowed to.

Hehe..at the very least, PLEASE make the steak and enjoy it yourself. Here’s the process I used to make the best steak ever:

Grilled Steak Recipe with Garlic-Herb Butter

Steak Recipe Step 1: Buy a hunk of steak. I like mine 1.25 to 1.5 inches thick. Any cut of meat: Filet, Sirloin, Rib Eye, Porterhouse, T-Bone and NY Strip – they all work. You can do this with steaks less than 1″, just really watch your timing. If your steak is already superbly marbled – cut back on your timing! The fattier (more marbled) the meat is, the faster the salt works its way through the meat.

Steak Recipe Step 2: About 1/2 to 1-1/2 teaspoons of kosher/sea salt per side. Let it sit at room temperature during salting. You’ll begin to see water on the surface of the meat and on your plate. Don’t use anything other than kosher or sea salt, ok?

Here are guidelines….start with this and adjust salt + timing as you experiment.

MEAT SALT/SIDE TIME
Less than 1″ 1/2 tsp each side 15 min
1″ thick cut – smallish girly-girl steak, about 4″ across 1/2 tsp each side 30 min
1.25″ -1.5″ (NY Strip, Ribeye) standard thicker steaks can sit longer to let the salt do its work throughout meat 3/4 – 1 tsp each side 45 min
1.25″ – 1.5″ manly-man T-Bone, Porterhouse – more surface area means you use more salt 1-2 tsp each side 45 min
>1.5″ Massive ginormous “Barney Rubble” porterhouse – our fav. I get the strip side, husband gets the filet side 1-2 tsp each side 1 hr or more
Step 3: Rinse all salt off, pat very dry <- that part is important. Season with fresh ground pepper (no more salt is needed). Grill to your liking. Hint: get yourself a grilling thermometer. Top with Garlic-Herb Butter immediately to let it oooooze and aaaahhze all over the steak.

Garlic-Herb Butter Recipe

1 stick of unsalted butter, softened (not melted, just softened)
handful of fresh herbs (any combination is fine. My fav is basil and parsley)
1-3 cloves of garlic, smushed in garlic press

To make the Garlic-Herb Butter, combine all ingredients. Lay out a sheet of plastic wrap. Spoon butter mixture on wrap. Roll and shape butter into a log. Refrigerate to firm up for 30 minutes. Slice into 1/4” disks to top the grilled steaks. You can make butter up to 3 days in advance. Make sure you use unsalted butter – the steak is seasoned perfectly already.

Some movie theaters here are too loud for me, and I’m half deaf from loud music for 20+ years. I think the theaters crank up the volume to drown out the stupid kids in the audience who talk during the movie. Also stop turning on your cell during the movie – I don’t care how quiet you are, the stupid lightup screen is just as friggin annoying when you’re trying to watch the movie. Hey kids, you are not important for two hours. Shut the thing off. You will survive, you are not a doctor on call.

Nitro and motorcycles not a good combo. My wife went to school with a guy who decided to do this a year after graduation. They scraped him up for two blocks. Also I took a course on Human Sexuality in college and I kid you not a 1/3 of the class was on Bonobos and how they like the sex. I can shed a little light on Texas gun laws. My husband has a concealed handgun license in Texas! Yeehaw.

To carry a concealed handgun, you must have a license. (Take a course, pass an exam, register with the DPS.) Even with the license, you cannot carry your gun just anywhere. A lot of places post signs that say you cannot conceal a weapon on their premises. Lame.

For other guns, (anything other than handgun,) you cannot conceal them ever. You can have them in your car, but only if they are out of your reach.

You can’t legally point a gun at someone unless they are threatening your immediate safety. Even then, you aren’t supposed to just shoot-you are supposed to warn them you have a gun and will use force to protect yourself, and give them a chance to leave you alone. (Of course…if you shoot someone it would probably be hard to prove if you warned them or not…)

Sorry I don’t listen to your shows as promptly as I would like, but your listeners that also happen to be teachers, AS WELL as parents, will be only too ready to tell you that Report card time truly blows goats. Not only am I not able to spend time listening to the good things in life (your podcast, for example), but I’m struggling to spend more time with my 5 year old son, so he doesn’t become a mass murdering rapist.

Anyhow, listening to episode 509, and I heard how Thing Three’s teacher popped a gasket. I CAN’T BLAME HER.

People seem to forget that Teachers are human (unlike other professions like Lawyers and Doctors), and that they are also the LOWEST paid of the postgrad professions.

Teachers don’t have ONE master. . . They have MANY masters. Teachers have to answer to their most important clients (kids). They have to answer to guilt-ridden and/or stupid parents (whose ONLY qualification to come in to your workplace and tell you how you know NOTHING about your job) is that their birth control failed. Teachers also answer to principals and vice principals, who are on a back-stabbing journey to the top, and will think NOTHING of taking down a teacher or two with them,
Teachers also answer to Trustees, who are only in the school board as a political stepping stone to whatever payola-ridden and power hungry objective they are weaseling toward.

In other words, I wouldn’t have been too amazed to see Thing Three’s teacher go TOTALLY postal. Besides, the mini-breakdown SHE had wouldn’t have even raised an eyeball 25 years ago, when we were sitting in the classrooms. At least she didn’t go postal.

Most people give no thought to how shitty it is to teach some peoples kids.

I bet she gets points off on the moon assignment for not drawing it the way her textbooks say it SHOULD look, even though what she actually saw was nothing. The teacher probably didn’t even really look outside. I had a similar assignment in college Astromony…”draw what you see in the telescope”. An art student, I drew exactly what I saw, yet I got points off because Saturn didn’t look like some goofy cartoon planet with huge thick rings. It wasn’t THAT good of a telescope! ha!

For giant people, ‘Village of the Giants’ is the best movie. You’ve got Ron Howard, Beau Bridges, and Tommy Kirk. Wackiness ensues. There’s also a great scene of Johnny Crawford (Lucas McCain’s boy) dangling between one of the giant gal’s boobs (might be the scene Kim was talking about.) It’s in my top ten favorite MST3k episodes.

I think that since it is now your 20th anniversary, you should take a second honeymoon, and maybe even renew your vows so Kim can have pictures! We just got married and honeymooned at a Sandals resort in St. Lucia, and although the resort was a little corny, it’s affordable, they really pamper you, and it is great if you just want to lay around in the sun and eat and drink all you want. DO IT! You deserve it!

I had to finally purchase an LCD tv as my old analog decided color was no longer necessary (black and white is quaint but not for all shows.) Ordered online, it came to me just in the manufacturer’s box with a couple of mailing labels slapped on it. No brown wrapping or box! Thankfully I was home when it was delivered. Plus I don’t need Joe Shmo at UPS who wants to see if he can put a nice crack in my screen just because he’s having a bad day at work.

There is plenty of reminding to walk in the hallways..you wouldn’t want anyone to be running with a sharp pencil now, would you? Hehe
At least at our school, the kids do crossing guard duties so the kidlets don’t run out in front of cars. As far as any training beyond that..there is no CPR or tactical training etc…but I certainly wouldn’t be looking to a 10 year old for any serious protection should the need present itself.

What exactly does a Safety Patrol do to keep people safe? I remember them from my elementary school, and the extent of their duties was telling me not to run on the sidewalk.

I have to imagine the whole world pretty much laughs at our legal system and how easy it is to manipulate. Whoever set the precedent that interaction with terrorists falls under a legal definition rather than a military one made a HUGE blunder and gave terrorists a big leg up in the world. Way to go, lawyers and congresspeople. I’m pretty damn sure NO military person would ever think that was a good idea. But they are only the ones who have to protect us, so of course don’t listen to their opinion on it. You congresspeople have a really tough job – talking to people for a living and writing things down. OOOOOOOOH – that takes intelligence. Some jobs do (engineers, teachers, code people) – yours not so much. Go into work, pander to people, make promises to get votes to keep you in office, once in office backslide on promises and find more people to pander to. NONE of you have firm stances on anything if it jeopardizes your status in office.

Great show K & S. I think you are right on the Sam’s Club theory, the membership fee keeps out a lot of the riff raff. I don’t buy the 50 rolls of TP, but I DO buy the industrial size of sliced pickles and jalapenos ($2.50 for a Vlasic 16 oz jar, $3.48 for a Vlasic 80 oz industrial size jar.) I wish all the soup varieties came in industrial sizes, I’d probably buy them too.

Great show guys. I ran into your ‘Land of the Lost’ issue when I went back and watched a lot of episodes of ‘Lost in Space’. I thought it was the greatest thing in the world when I was a kid – thought the Jupiter 2 was just friggin fantastic as a spaceship, thought Judy was just friggin HOT, and some of the monsters were just terrifying (the giant orange headed guy with the twisted face friggin gave me nightmares.) Looking back now…umm wow, pretty darn cheesy. Dr Smith is still good doing his campy thing, and well Judy was just HOT, but the monsters. Ya gotta love the episode where Penny rebels with the hippies and just loves to dance up on a table (quite normal for then, quite stripperlike for now.) Guess we just can’t go back and watch em now.

Sesame Street just cracks me up. I never got the sleeveless look either – I see that and I just think Larry the Cable Guy. I’m a hairy guy, I don’t even like hitting the pool when its crowded (imagine a gorilla in the zoo pool, that’s a pretty accurate picture.) I could never switch over to soap and a straight razor – I’d end up cutting my own throat trying to shave. I don’t have the necessary skillz.

Here’s one for the guys. Switch to shaving soap and a straight razor. It takes some getting used to, but you will save a ton on shaving supplies.
