21 Day Screenplay - Day 3 Is Over!
Whew, that was one of the worst experiences of my writing life.
There’s a point in every script where your hero needs to change, for the good or ill. It’s a kind of mini-turning-point. He’s not quite who he’ll be at the end of the thing, but he’s definitely who he was when he started.
The problem is that I am, by trade, a prose writer. Showing character growth strictly through action and dialog was about enough to make my balls shrivel up into my stomach.
Fortunately, my writing ethic involves a lot of self-flagellation and threats of great privation if I don’t hit my daily goal. So, yeah, I did it.
45 pages in 3 days. 75 pages to go. Whew.
I also wanted to answer a question I got over on plurk - I’m only giving myself 21 days to do this, because I know me. If I don’t do something in three weeks, I’m probably never going to do it.
Given how fast I’ve written in the past (I once did a 100,000 word game manual in ten days, but don’t tell my publisher), I knew I could do this. I just had to set the goal and do it.
So far - kicking my ass while I’m kicking ass, but it looks like it’s going to happen.
Day 5 is going to be the tough one - can Sam write while he’s stuffed full of filet mignon and pecanhas from Texas de Brazil?
